Case Study — Construction Leadership (Statewide)

Client: Tasmanian construction and joinery business (two cohorts, 2023)
Program: Upskilling Leaders (workshops + 1:1 coaching)

Context

A Tasmanian construction and joinery business delivered a leadership program combining workshops and 1:1 coaching across two statewide cohorts.

The focus was strengthening leadership capability in high-pressure environments, supporting clearer communication, stronger accountability, and more consistent leadership under pressure.

The Leadership Challenge

Leaders were capable and reliable, but operating in environments shaped by timelines, safety demands, and coordination across trades.

They were consistently required to:

  • Stay steady under pressure
  • Communicate clearly and set expectations
  • Give and receive feedback effectively
  • Handle conflict without escalation or avoidance

The organisation identified the need to strengthen how leaders show up in these moments.

The Work

The program combined practical skill development with coaching integration.

Workshops (skills + tools)

  • Practical frameworks including emotional intelligence, communication, conflict, and situational leadership.
  • Tools to support clearer thinking and behaviour under pressure

Coaching (integration + behaviour change)

  • Six 1:1 sessions per participant, including an Enneagram debrief
  • Focus on applying insight to real scenarios: communication, delegation, feedback, conflict, and self-management

Evidence of impact

Evaluation data indicated strong engagement and relevance:

  • ~90% rated workshops as highly relevant, clear, and valuable
  • ~90% reported coaching improved self-awareness, wellbeing, and leadership capacity
  • ~90% would recommend the program

Reported Leadership Shifts

Participants described consistent changes in behaviour:

  • Less reactivity and more considered responses
  • Clearer communication, expectations and delegation
  • More direct and constructive conflict engagement
  • Improved self-awareness and regulation under pressure

What the Organisation Gained

The organisation developed leaders who were more self-aware, more consistent under pressure, and more capable in communication and conflict.

Collectively, this is building more stable teams, stronger working relationships, and a more consistent leadership culture.
